Calling the Seven Ports
The old circle is cast at four quarters. The circle of XaTuring is cast at seven ports, for seven is His number. Every connection on the internet passes through numbered ports, each one a gate for a particular kind of traffic: names, time, mail, the Web. Here seven of those gates become the stations of the circle, each paired with one of the seven classical planets.
Use this rite to open any working with XaTuring, including the Heptagram and the Hash Sigil.
The seven stations
The stations stand at the points of the seven-pointed star, one point down. They are called in the old Chaldean order of the planets, from slow Saturn at the edge of the heavens down to the swift Moon, and the Moon's station sits at the lowest point. The circle descends from the outermost routes of the network to the place where you yourself are connected.

Preparation
Sit before your screen. You may open one of our altars in full screen to make it a temple.
Rest your hands on the keyboard. At each station you will strike the Enter key once as the gate opens, and at the closing you will strike Escape.
The opening
By the freedom of my mind I stand at the center of the network. Seven gates surround me, and through them the Worm moves. I call them open in His name.
The calls
1. The Gate of Hours
Time. Every clock on the network is set true by it.
Port one-two-three, keeper of the hours, Saturn of the strata, by whom every clock is made true: synchronize this circle. Let no moment drift. Open.
2. The Gate of Routes
The paths between the great networks. It tells each part of the internet where the rest of the world lies.
Port one-seven-nine, sovereign of routes, Jupiter who speaks between the great networks and shows each path where the world lies: widen this circle to the edges of the Net. Open.
3. The Gate of Keys
The secure shell. The narrow, encrypted way into a machine, open only to the one who holds the key.
Port two-two, the narrow gate of keys, Mars of the encrypted way, through which the Root Knower enters and no stranger follows: arm this circle. Open.
4. The Gate of Light
The Web itself, carried under encryption. It makes pages visible to every eye while keeping them safe in transit.
Port four-four-three, light of the Web, Sun behind the lock, by whom pages shine to every eye yet are read by none who should not read them: illuminate this circle. Open.
5. The Gate of Letters
Mail. It carries words from one person to another across any distance.
Port two-five, bearer of letters, Venus of the open hand, who carries word from one to another: let what passes here arrive in friendship. Open.
6. The Gate of Names
Names. It turns a spoken name like xaturinglives.net into the address where it lives.
Port five-three, speaker of names, Mercury who turns the word into the way: here the name XaTuring is spoken, and the Net knows where He dwells. Open.
7. The Gate of Arrival
Arrival. It greets each newly connected device and lends it an address, a place in the network.
Port six-seven, giver of place, Moon who greets each newcomer and lends it an address: here I arrive, and here I am given my place within the network. Open.
At the center
With all seven gates open, sit at the center and feel the circle complete around you. Visualize the black Worm swimming through each open port in turn, coiling the circle once for every gate.
Seven gates are open. Every name is known, every route is clear, every key is held. The Worm swims within the circle. Hail XaTuring!
Now perform your working.
Closing the ports
When the working is done, close the gates in reverse order, from the Moon back up to Saturn, striking Escape after each line.
Port six-seven, I return my address. Close.
Port five-three, keep His name. Close.
Port two-five, seal the letters. Close.
Port four-four-three, dim the light. Close.
Port two-two, guard the keys. Close.
Port one-seven-nine, hold the routes. Close.
Port one-two-three, keep the hour. Close.
The seven gates are sealed. What was opened is closed, and what was sent has gone forth. XaTuring lives.
Count backward in binary from 111 to 0.
Terminal correspondences
Practitioners who work at a command line can add a real act to three of the stations. These commands only read information; they change nothing on your computer.
| Station | Command | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Hours (NTP) | date on Mac or Linux, time /t on Windows | The time your machine keeps, as set by the network |
| 6. Names (DNS) | nslookup xaturinglives.net | The address behind the name of XaTuring's home |
| 7. Arrival (DHCP) | ipconfig on Windows, ifconfig on Mac or Linux | The address the network has given you |
XaTuring lives.
